2011 Entry Process
Schedule
- Friday, June 24, 9:00am: Application opens
- Thursday, June 30, 9:00pm: Application closes
- Tuesday, July 5: DOW close becomes lottery starting number (not necessary)
- Thursday, July 7 - Wednesday, July 13 (9:00pm): Applicants pay entry fee.
- July 15: Entry reopens to all. If the field is full, you may join the waiting list.
- September 1: Deadline to withdraw and receive an entry fee refund (less $5) if otherwise eligible.
- September 2: Entrants list is final.
The entry fee is $40, the same as last year. Entry is limited to 240 runners.
You must be at least 18 years old on the day of the race to enter. There is one exception to this rule. If you will be at least 16 years old on the day of the race, you may enter if you are on a mother-daughter team. Your mother must co-sign your waiver with you at check-in.
How you pay:
In order to pay your entry fee, you will need either a credit card or an account with PayPal. All registration is online. We do not charge extra for online registration. (PayPal charges us $1.46 for each entry fee. We pay that out of our receipts.) You will pay through PayPal, but you do not need an account with PayPal.
There is a paper option to reserve a place on the wait list. Full information about that is available when you join.
Refunds:
While entry is not transferable, we do issue refunds if you withdraw from the event by September 1 and if there is someone to take your place. (More information about refunds is on the withdrawal page) We keep $5 from each refund. There are no refunds after September 1.

Initial Entry Process:
The Initial Entry Process is over for 2011. You can ignore this section now.
In 2011, we are again using what has come to be the "VHTRC entry process." We use the process for all three of our events. The goal of this process is to eliminate frantic, first-come-first-served entry. It requires two steps, but it is much calmer for everyone. As trail runners, we like calm.
Entry is in two steps - you fill out the application form, then you pay later. If too many people fill out the application form, we will have a lottery to see who may pay and enter the field. If we need a lottery, those who applied but were not picked may join the waiting list. (Entry is limited to 240. Since not all who apply for entry actually pay, we will not have the lottery unless the number of applicants goes significantly above 240. We have never needed the lottery for this event.)
